Registration to Özay Günsel Children’s University for the Fall Term of the academic year 2019-2020 is continuing. Özay Günsel Children’s University was established with the aim to help young and older children, aged 6-17, explore their interests and abilities and to give them qualified training in the fields of science, technology and their individual talents.
According to the press release issued by Özay Günsel Children’s University, children have the opportunity to spend their Saturdays learning while having fun as an addition to their school activities carried out on weekdays; and the registration to this program is to continue until the end of 20th September 2019. Furthermore, it was revealed that registry could be made at the registration desks at the entrance of Faculty of Health Sciences of Near East University. Moreover, registration could be made by filling out registration forms found at ozaygunselcocukuniversitesi.org. Additionally, it was announced that two passport sized photos, a photocopy of the student’s identity card/birth certificate were necessary to complete the registration process fully.
Fall Term Commences on 21st September 2019…
It was pointed out that the Fall Term academic year 2019/2020 program of Özay Günsel Children’s University includes a total of 100 hours to be held on 20 Saturdays. Winter academic programs will be held every 2 weeks.
A Renewed Curriculum…
The revised curriculum involves specially prepared programs focused on for different age groups and encouraging high academic development and the development of a child’s character. In addition to the above, the programs were developed in a way that ensures focus on projects prepared by considering the latest developments in the fields of interests of students. The training programs are basically gathered under the titles of health, nature, life,
architecture, engineering, science, sports, art, social and project. The programs are administered by professors, associate professors, assistant professors, doctors or specialist academicians from the Near East University and Kyrenia University. Also, fun English and Math programs will be held this semester.
Fun Applied and Educational Programs …
Educational programs prepared according to the interests of children include: Turkish Sign Language, Music and Mathematics, Composing, Preparing Herbarium, Child Friendly Pharmacy and Rational Drug Use, Home Remedies, Fragrant Plants Review, Philosophy, What is Friendship? How to Become Optimistic and Pessimistic? Journey to the History of Cyprus; Sculpture Workshop; Media Literacy; Motion Picture Making; Game Room Design; Terrarium Workshop, Electric Production from Potato, Gastronomy, Nature and Sea Creatures, and many others.
Seminars, Workshops, Projects will be carried out…
Just as it was the case with programs held in summer, during the fall term of the academic year of 2019-2020, seminars will be held in which students will meet with world famous scientists. Furthermore, projects related to nature-sea creatures aiming to develop environmental and nature protection awareness. Additionally, workshops will be held on the subject of children’s rights and the creation of messages to teachers and parents through the eyes of children.
Students Receive Credits in Each Program they participate in…
It was pointed out that students who participated in summer programs and collected 100 credits- thus awarded the Bronze Certificate-can continue to collect credits during the fall term. Therefore, they will be offered the chance to progress towards the SILVER certificate. Students who could not complete their credits by participating in the summer term will have the opportunity to obtain a certificate by completing their missing credits via participating in the program during the fall term.
In relation to the above, it was reminded that by participating in programs of Özay Günsel Children’s University, students required 200 credits for SILVER; 300 credits for GOLD certificates. The students who receive the gold certificate will graduate from Özay Günsel Children’s University as a doctor. As the number of gold certificates one owns increases, so does the academic titles that a student can be awarded.

Making a statement regarding the matter, Prof. Dr. Meriçli said: “Özay Günsel Children’s University was founded with the vision to bring children together with science and sceintists, art and artists, and sports and athletes under the overarching umbrella of the university at an early age, in addition to aim to improve children’s ability to question, to solve problems, to prepare for life as entrepreneurs and creative individuals through activating their existing scientific curiosity and imagination. Subsequent to the successful completion of the summer program, Özay Günsel Children’s University is getting ready to initiate its fall term programs. These include fun activities, workshops and other colourful events and through it all, we are ready to continue to raise happy children who learn while having fun and conquering their fields of interests.”
In addition to the above, Prof. Dr. Meriçli reminded that Özay Günsel Children’s University was the first and only of its kind in our country. She emphasised that Özay Günsel Children’s University should NOT be regarded as either a summer or a winter school, but rather seen as great opportunity for children to explore the world standard labs of Near East University and University of Kyrenia, alongside experience professors, associate professors, assistant professors, doctors and specialist academics in architecture and art workshops, sports tower and innovation centre; while also having the chance to make their own robots, to make their own cartoons, to obtain electricity from vegetables, to obtain DNA from fruits, to learn a lot of up-to-date information about healthy living and to explore their own talents. Prof. Dr. Filiz Meriçli added that they were ready to spend another academic term with the children with their highly competent academic personnel who will act as a role model to the children. She likened each child to a star and said that the only place where they were to shine was Özay Günsel Children’s University. She ended her words by stressing the importance of educating children as they were to be our future. She thanked everyone who contribute and care about the education of children.
