Personal protective equipment “face shields” produced by Near East University in line with the fight against COVID-19 Pandemic delivered to the Ministry of Health

The first party produced by the researchers of the Near East University Experimental Health Sciences Research Center (DESAM) and NEU3D Laboratory and GÜNSEL Engineers for the protection of health workers in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic was delivered to the Ministry of Health.
According to the information provided by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of Near East University, Vice-Rector of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and Near East University NEU 3D Laboratory Director and Pediatric Surgery Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emil Mamadov during their visit to the Ministry of Health delivered the first party of the protective Face Shields to Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ali Çaygür, to be distributed to the health personnel. During the visit, Dr. Çaygür was also informed about the design, production processes and protective properties of the face shields, and information was given about the work carried out for the new equipment.

Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ: “Applause is not enough for the healthcare professionals who are at the forefront of the coronavirus war…”
Speaking during the delivery of the first party of face shields, Vice-Rector of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ in his speech stated that they, as Near East University, have been carrying out both scientific and innovative studies against the new Coronavirus that surrounds the world and threatens human health. In this context, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, who stated that they have been exchanging views and sharing their knowledge with state officials for benefit of our country which has been having difficult times, said that they are trying to do their best by conducting all kinds of research and study scientifically.

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ stated that only applause is not enough for the healthcare professionals who are at the forefront of the war with the pandemic. Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said, “While conducting efforts to raise awareness of the society on measures and methods of protection to be taken against the new coronavirus threatening human health, it is not enough to only applaud the healthcare workers who are at the forefront of this war but to support them. Keeping them healthy is one of the most important elements of preventing the epidemic. It is a great honor for us that the face shields, which have been designed and started to be mass-produced by our engineers in order to protect the health of healthcare personnel, will be distributed to healthcare personnel free-of-charge. As Near East University, we will continue to offer all our means to the benefit of our nation and human beings in every struggle.”


Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emil Mamadov: “We are carrying out new R&D studies in fighting disease…”
NEU3D Laboratory Director affiliated to Experimental Health Sciences Research Center (DESAM) and Pediatric Surgery Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emil Mammadov emphasizing that the design of the face shield is unique to them, stated that research on some equipment that may be involved in the fight against the pandemic is being carried out in line with the R&D studies. Mammadov stated that the design of the face shields is shared with the 3D labs in Turkey and various countries in the world and also explained what could be done to prevent the spread of epidemic. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mamadov said that they will soon share about other equipment they are working on.

We reduced the production capacity to 1.5 hours…
Giving information about the production process and features of the face shield, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emil Mamadov stated that by using all devices within Near East University, they reduced their production capacity to 1.5 hours on average, which previously was taking 4-5 hours.


Dr. Ali Çaygür: “It is a great pleasure to see that Near East University uses all its technical and technological facilities in fighting the Pandemic…”
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ali Çaygür, also said that the initiative of Near East University to protect healthcare workers with domestic production is quite pleasing in a process where it is difficult to bring material from the outside due to the measures caused by the new coronavirus. Undersecretary Dr. Çaygür thanked Near East University, which made a great contribution to the struggle with the new coronavirus by using all of its units, technical and technological facilities. Dr. Çaygür said “Designing and production of the face shields domestically once again showed how important domestic production is in such a struggle. I would like to express my gratitude to the Founding Rector Dr. Suat Günsel, who supports the struggle by pulling the daily production capacity to the highest standards, and to Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and all the employees of Near East University for their support and dedication.”
