Özay Günsel Children University continues its 2020-2021 Academic Fall semester online with entertaining and instructive programs applied in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.
The third of the trainings, which take place every Saturday, was held. In the education programs carried out by Near East University academic staff, it is aimed to attract the attention of children and young people to science, scientific thought and art in line with the age groups. In the third week of the training, workshops aimed at improving the knowledge and skills of students in the Earth group aged 6-8, the Sun group aged 9-11 and the Galaxy group aged 12-15 years were held.

World Group students, participated in the "Fun Mathematics" activity with Assist. Prof. Dr. Meryem Cumhur, Near East University faculty member, aiming to develop mathematical knowledge and skills. At the same time, programs were offered to students in which they could solve math problems.

The Sun Group students also carried out the activity "I Make Flowers from Recycled Materials" together with Aysun Gencebay, one of the Coordinators of Özay Günsel Children University, within the scope of their DIY projects. In the activity, which supports children to come up with creative ideas by using their imaginations, students learned how to make flowers with unused or recyclable materials.
What's in Space?
At Özay Günsel Children University, which creates educational programs aimed at increasing children's interest in science and science subjects, Galaxy Group students attended the "What We Don't Know About Space" activity with Tevfik Yavuz. Tevfik Yavuz, who gave information to students about the logic of the planets, stars and galaxy systems in their orbits, shared interesting information about the researches about space.

Sign language educator and Near East University Atatürk Education Faculty academic staff member Assist Prof. Dr. Emrah Soykan had a short conversation about the importance of helping each other and group students learned pronouns in sign language. Within the scope of the conversation, issues such as benevolence, cooperation, solidarity and sharing among children and young people were emphasized.
How should the approach to children with school phobia be?
Within the scope of parent talks series for the third week, Specialist on Child and Adolescent Psychology Çağla Akarsel held a seminar on 'School Phobia and School Rejection of Children' with the parents. The parents were informed about the reasons for school refusal and the wrong behaviors that turned into school phobia. Explaining that the main reasons for school phobia or school refusal in children are separation anxiety from parents, Akarsel explained that parents should find out what situation and emotion cause the child's rejection of school and study to solve this problem. Çağla Akarsel emphasized that empathy should be established with the child in the face of this situation and that behaviors such as intimidation, threat and violence must be avoided.
