Özay Günsel Children University Students Improved their Design Creation Skills with Materials

Özay Günsel Children University organized activities that reinforce the concepts of sustainable life skills of students, therapy with animals, imagination development, respect and tolerance.

At Özay Günsel Children University, which offers Fall Semester classes free of charge to all children on Saturday every week, activities held in accordance with age groups; 6-8 years old World Group, 'Let's have a journey to our Imaginary world'; 9-11 years Sun Group 'The healing powers of animals'; 12-15 years old Galaxy Group "0 Waste Project". All group students learned the words used in basic daily conversations in the "Sign Language", basic education conducted jointly and they studied among themselves. In the "Wonder, Research, Learn" activity, the concepts of respect, tolerance and awareness were emphasized within the scope of "December 3, International Day of Persons with Disabilities".

Journey to the World of Imagination
Students of the World Group learned design and new drawing techniques with different materials in the "Let's have a journey to our imaginary world" activity. The students, who made designs with various materials such as lettuce, sharpener waste, scissors, carrot slices waste and leaves, were introduced to new drawing techniques. At the end of the colorful and fun practical lesson, the children shared their work completed at home with their friends online.

How people benefit from the healing power of animals...
Özay Günsel Children University carried out counseling activities aimed at obtaining information about students' personal talents, social and psychological development as well as the trainings in the program. In this context, Sun Group students commented on "The Healing Powers of Animals". The students received information about how horses, cats and dolphins heal people with the frequency waves they emit, and the interaction with the applications of the developed therapy.

Recycle, reuse...
Galaxy Group students, who carried out the "Zero Waste Project" activity, which aims to make children adopt sustainable living skills and develop environmentally-friendly consumption habits and waste management awareness, also studied how to produce new products from waste materials. In the event, where zero waste was emphasized, students were informed about how to transform materials they do not need.

Basic sign language trainings continue...
In the "Basic Sign Language" education, which aims to introduce "Sign Language" to children of education age and to raise awareness about communicating with the hearing impaired, students in all groups learned to express their birth dates. In sign language education, children are taught the words used in basic daily conversations and applications are made every week by showing videos consisting of signs, alphabets, colors, foods and words that can be used in emergency situations.

Perception of respect, tolerance and respect for differences reinforced...
In the "Wonder, Research, Learn" activity, the topic of "December 3, International Day of Persons with Disabilities" was discussed. The activity, which was organized to raise awareness in society for disabled individuals, focused on disability rights and respect for disabled individuals. At the end of the event, students shared their own sign language videos about respecting the life and human rights of physically and mentally disabled individuals and removing the barriers causing trouble to them.

Online lessons free for all kids...
The first and only Children's University of Cyprus, Özay Günsel Children University, where science is introduced with fun and also provides educational support to discover and develop children's mental and physical abilities, offers free online courses for the 2020-2021 Academic Year Fall Semester due to the COVID-19 outbreak. .
