The 2nd World Children's Conference, hosted by Özay Günsel Children's University, the first and only children's university of the TRNC, started on May 21 with an intense participation. During the three-day congress, more than 200 papers from nearly 50 countries will be presented. The World Children's Conference, the first of which was held in Ankara last year, is held online this year due to pandemic conditions.

World Children's Conference started with opening speeches of Özay Günsel Children's University Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Honorary Chairman of the World Children's Conference Organizing Committee Anna Günsel, Rector of Özay Günsel Children's University and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the World Children's Conference Prof. Dr. Filiz Meriçli and United Nations UNICEF Turkey Representative Sema Hosta.

The Turkish Anthem performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, performed by pianist Can Sakkaoğlu who is a successful student of Rauf Kasimov from the TRNC, who also received an award in the classical music competition supported by Özay Günsel Children's University, also enlivened the opening ceremony. Begüm Tekakpınar, a master student of Near East University Atatürk Education Faculty Music Department, also sang a Northern Cyprus melody accompanied by piano. In addition, at the closing of the sessions of the World Children's Conference, the project developed by the graduate student of the Music Department of the Near East University Atatürk Education Faculty, the music instruments designed by high school students from recycled materials and the special songs about the Environment and Covid 19 were highly appreciated by the participants.

200 oral presentations from different countries will be presented at the World Children's Conference
At the conference, many topics ranging from children's rights to education, from migration to child labor, from family to sports, from nutrition to health problems will be discussed and an important vision study will be developed. Many academicians from Near East University, Kyrenia University, Erciyes University, Çukurova University, Istanbul University, Akdeniz University, Gazi University, Ankara University, Istanbul Medipol University, Ankara University, Ege University, Baku State University, Azerbaijan Medical University, Moscow Health Institute, Federal Institute of Many academicians from Mato Grosso do Sul State University of Brazil, University of Batna, Yıldız Technical University will present 200 papers.

There are many participants from many countries are participating at the World Children's Conference, including the TRNC and Turkey, Azerbaijan, Russia, Ukraine, Brazil, Kazakhstan, India, South Africa, Bulgaria, Iran, Slovenia, Baku, Algeria, Pakistan, USA and Serbia.

Anna Günsel: "In order to reach the goal of a more livable world for children, the policies to be implemented should be discussed on a global scale and implemented all over the world"
Özay Günsel Children's University Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Honorary Chairman of the World Children's Conference Organizing Committee Anna Günsel started her speech at the opening ceremony of the conference by stating that they are very happy and proud to host this visionary meeting, which is realized with the goal of a livable world for the children of the world. Anna Günsel said, “If there were no pandemic conditions, we would like to host you, our valuable participants, in the TRNC at the World Children's Conference. However, the importance of the topics to be discussed is so high that we did not want to postpone the meeting. With the World Children's Conference, we will realize an important visionary study by creating a scientific discussion environment that puts children at the center. For this reason, we believe it is extremely important that this conference be held even from a distance.”

Stating that although Özay Günsel Children's University is a very young children's university, Near East University and Kyrenia University have about half a century experience of knowledge and academic experience behind them, Anna Günsel said, “Reaching 500 children in the past two years, touching their lives and sharing the journey of self-discovery it was an indescribable joy for us.”

Günsel underlined that local efforts alone are not enough for children to live in a better world and have a better future, and that these studies should be discussed on a global scale and implemented all over the world. Anna Günsel said, "I believe the World Children's Conference will have a very valuable function in this sense."

Prof. Dr. Filiz Meriçli: "The fact that scientists from different countries will evaluate the results of child studies together will play an important role in shaping the global child policies to be determined."
Özay Günsel Children's University Rector Prof. Dr. Filiz Meriçli started her speech by saying "good morning" in different languages and continued as follows; "The future of families, countries and the world will determine how children are raised". Stating that the World Children's Conference they host will seek the answer to this question, Prof. Dr. Filiz Meriçli said, “For a better world, it is necessary to ensure that children grow up with love and respect with their peers all over the world. Educational content should enable them to grow up as individuals with full self-esteem and self-confidence, they should be raised where they can discover their own talents and develop their skills, realize themselves. Because every child is Unique. Every child is a star. Our duty as adults is to create environments and opportunities where they can shine freely and create a better world.”

Stating that the papers presented by the researchers during the conference will guide children to become happier individuals and create a better world, Prof. Dr. Meriçli said that the fact that scientists from different countries of Africa, America, Asia and Europe will evaluate the results of research on children will play an important role in shaping the global child policies to be determined. Stating that more than 200 oral presentations will be presented at the end of the conference, Prof. Meriçli stated that the Congress Final Statement will be prepared and the full texts of the presented papers will also be published as Proceedings Book.
