Özay Günsel Children’s University Becomes a Member of the European Children’s Universities Network

Özay Günsel Children's University, the first and only children's university in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, became a member of the European Children's Universities Network (EUCU), which includes children's universities from different countries of the world.

Thus, in EUCU, which brings together many children's universities operating in many countries of the world, including England, Spain, Finland, Belgium, Turkey, Italy and Canada, on the same platform, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is represented by Özay Günsel Children's University. With the European Children's Universities Network, children's universities aim to create a worldwide standard for education aiming the development of children by developing joint projects and sharing scientific studies and different programs implemented to students from different countries.


Bringing children together with university
With the opportunities provided by Özay Günsel Children's University, Near East University and University of Kyrenia academics from the science, art and sports departments of are brought together with children on the campuses of universities. With the various activity programs implemented, it is aimed to reveal the innovative ideas and talents of children that will compete with the world. Özay Günsel Children's University, operating with the motto of "Wonder, dream, think, touch, act, try, develop, create innovation", contributes to the development of children with its science-technology-engineering-art and mathematics (STEAM) education programs and gives them a broad vision.

Özay Günsel Children's University, a member of the European Children's Universities Network, hosted the 2nd World Children's Conference in May, where scientists from 25 countries presented 199 oral presentations.

Emphasizing that Özay Günsel Children's University gained an international identity with its participation in the European Children's Universities Network, Anna Günsel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Özay Günsel Children's University, said that the European Children's Universities Network allows the transfer of experience between dozens of children's universities from different countries of the world. Reminding that they also hosted the 2nd World Children's Conference in May, Günsel said, "We will continue to take an active part in the formation of education models and policies for the world's children, together with other children's universities that are members of the European Children's Universities Network."


Prof. Dr. Filiz Meriçli: “We are happy that we have achieved one of our founding goals in a short time.”
Özay Günsel Children's University Rector Prof. Dr. Filiz Meriçli reminded the goals they revealed when announcing the establishment of Özay Günsel Children's University on April 22, 2019, and said, "In addition to our trainings that will bring the beautiful children of Beautiful Cyprus together with their peers around the world, we will organize international meetings with academics who conduct research on children and the United Nations UNICEF. Let me remind you that I had said that we aimed to become a member of the International Association of Children's Universities. Despite the fact that we were established only 2.5 years ago, 2.5 years after our establishment we hosted the 2nd World Conference on Children, where we brought together 300 researchers from 20 countries. We became a member by overcoming the difficult membership stages of the European Children's Universities Network, which is headquartered in Austria. We are happy that we have achieved our goals in a short time.” Stating that they will contribute to the recognition of the TRNC by making joint projects with other children's universities in the European Children's Universities Network, Prof. Dr. Meriçli said, “We attended the European Children's Universities Network General Assembly held online on June 10. We were greeted with warm interest, especially by Chairman Karoline Iber. We would like to be a member of the European Children's Universities Network Board of Directors in the next general assemblies.”
