The awards given for the “Inter-High School Environment Competition” held by Özay Günsel Children’s University

As a result of the competition, İzmir Private Çakabey High School, Sakarya Cevat Ayhan Science High School, Science and Technology High School, İzmir Private Turkish College, Güzelyurt Turkish Maarif College, Atatürk Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, 20 July Science High School, Near East College and Teknofen College granted awards.

The “Inter-High School Environment Competition”, which was held in cooperation with Özay Günsel Children’s University, Near East University, GÜNSEL, NERİTA and Fikret Yüksel Foundation, was concluded. Within the scope of the competition, 17 teams and 84 students from Turkey and TRNC competed in the categories of “Project”, “Environmental Vehicles” and “Awareness”.

In the competition, which aims to raise awareness about existing environmental problems and to become a part of the solution of the problem with the suggestions they produce, the children developed environmentally-friendly vehicles by designing their own projects through teamwork.

Nine teams awarded in three categories
As a result of the evaluations of the jury consisting of Şefik Emre Coşkun, Filiz Güleç Kutlu, Alper Elbirler, Efe Çukur, İrem Beceren and Ali Can Uyar, nine teams were awarded in three categories.

As a result of the evaluation, the Combiyo team from Izmir Private Çakabey High School won the grand prize in the “project category”; Grapefruit Team from Sakarya Cevat Ayhan Science High School was awarded with the “Creativity Award” in the same category, Biology Monsters from the Science and Technology High School received the “Teamwork Award” and Strabo’s Youth team from Izmir Private Turkish College were awarded the “Special Jury Award”.

In the second category of the competition, “Environmentalist Vehicles”, the Green Goblins team from Güzelyurt Turkish Maarif College won the “Grand Design Award”. In the same category, the “Eternal” team from Atatürk Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School won the “Creativity Award”, and the Environmentalist Union team from 20 July Science High School won the “Special Jury Award”.

The “Plant Angiographers” team from Near East College won the grand prize in the awareness category, while the Cousins ​​team from Teknofen College won the “Teamwork Award”.

To be held face to face next year
Özay Günsel Children’s University aims to organize the “Inter-High School Environment Competition”, which it organized for the first time this year, together with its stakeholders, by traditionalizing the event every year. While the competition is planned to be held face-to-face next year aiming to bring together high school teams and with much larger participation from Turkey and the TRNC, it is also aimed to hold an environmental festival.


Anna Günsel: “While the competition we organized helped our high school students to gain awareness about the environment, we aimed for them to become a part of the solution to environmental problems with the projects they produced.”
Özay Günsel Children’s University Board of Trustees Chairperson Anna Günsel congratulated all the teams participating in the “Inter-High School Environment Competition” and said, “Environmental problems due to climate change reveal that a new lifestyle should be adopted. With the competition we organized, we aimed to raise awareness of our high school students on the subject, on the one hand, and to become a part of the solution with the projects they produced, on the other hand.”

Saying that they will hold the Inter-High School Environment Competition in the TRNC next year, Anna Günsel added; “Next year, we plan to combine our competition with an environmental festival and bring together the students studying in the high schools of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the TRNC.”
